Dorayaki pancakes are a traditional Japanese dessert and are the favourite treat of popular Japanese character Doraemon. This dorayaki is made with two spongy, sweet pancakes covering a delicious, moist red bean filling.

Background

The origin of Dorayaki pancakes dates back to feudal Japan when a Samurai warrior left his gong (dora) leaving a farmer’s home where he was hiding. The farmer then used the gong to make round pancakes, hence the name dorayaki (yaki meaning ‘cooked’).
