If you love biting into candy apples at Halloween, you may be tempted by our crunchy and sweet daigaku imo. This traditional Japanese sweet is made from candied sweet potatoes in a flavourful blend of sesame oil, soy sauce, vinegar and sugar.
Traditionally enjoyed by students in autumn, these easy to make and tasty sweet potato chunks can make a great savoury snack to share or enjoy while lying on the sofa.
• 1 Sweet Potato (approx.300g)
• 1 tbsp Sesame Oil
• 2 tbsp Sugar
• 1 tbsp Soy Sauce
• 1 tsp Vinegar
• 1 tsp Black Sesame Seeds
Suggested Drink: Sangaria Ramune Soda
First wash your sweet potato with clean water and cut it into chunks.
Grab a frying pan and add the sesame oil, the sugar, the soy sauce and the vinegar, and let the mix simmer on a low heat for about 30 seconds.
Add the sweet potato chunks and let them cook for about 2 minutes on each side.
Once the chunks have taken on a caramel colour, remove them from the heat and sprinkle on the black sesame seeds. Enjoy with a sip of Sangaria lemonade.
